New SEC Enforcement Director Identified

SEC Chairman Mary Jo White will name a trusted former colleague, Andrew Ceresney, to be her enforcement director in the coming weeks, according to Reuters.  The news outlet is reporting that Mr. Ceresney has already been spotted around SEC headquarters and is starting to schedule meetings with agency officials.  Chairman White has worked with Andrew Ceresney for over ten years, first at the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan and then at Debevoise & Plimpton.

His recent work at Debevoise & Plimpton could prompt Mr. Ceresney to recuse himself from some enforcement matters due to potential conflicts of interest.  To help address this, current acting enforcement director George Canellos may stay on as a co-head for a limited time, according to news reports.
