Michael Piwowar, the chief Republican economist for the Senate Banking Committee, is being vetted to become an SEC Commissioner, according to Bloomberg. Piwowar would be nominated to fill the Republican Commissioner slot being vacated by Troy Paredes in June of this year. Piwowar would be the only economist on the Commission, which is historically made up of lawyers. Earlier in his career, Piwowar served at the SEC as a Senior Financial Economist and at the White House Council of Economic Advisers as a Senior Economist. He holds both an MBA and a PhD in finance.
