On October 11, 2011 in Chicago, the Mutual Fund Directors Forum and Morningstar will host a program on director oversight of fund performance. Directors will have an opportunity to discuss their thoughts on common explanations given for poor fund performance. The program also will explore director oversight of funds that are particularly difficult to categorize, such as target date funds, alternative strategies funds, and funds that cross the "value," "growth," and "core" styles. Panelists also will examine the role risk plays in fund categorization.
Additionally, the event will feature a conversation between Morningstar and fund directors about Morningstar's process for assigning Morningstar® Stewardship GradesSM to mutual funds. Participants will learn about the factors Morningstar uses and will be able to ask questions about particular rating practices.
The program is open to all fund company directors and their lawyers, as well as fund company executives and related personnel. Additional information on the program, including a list of panelists is available here.
