Yesterday, President Obama announced that he would nominate Mary Jo White as the next SEC chairman. Ms. White is a former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York. During her nine year tenure she supervised over 200 Assistant US Attorneys in successfully prosecuting national and international matters, including complex white collar and international terrorism cases. More recently, Ms. White has spent the last decade as a litigation partner at Debevoise & Plimpton. If confirmed by the Senate, Ms. White would be the first former prosecutor to chair the SEC.
